On our trip to Northern Arizona last month we took a side trip to the Painted Desert, which also contains the Petrified Forest. It is a 26 mile road (of which we traveled a little over half).
The petrified forest consisted of large chunks of petrified wood. The family was a little disappointed that there weren’t any complete trees, but it was pretty awesome nonetheless.
Growing up in Phoenix, there was a lot of Native American Culture in school. One thing I remember doing was making sand paintings. After seeing the painted desert I can see exactly where the idea came from.
The Agate Bridge
Am I the only one reminded of E.T. ?

Love all of the cool rock formations. This National Park was definitely worth a stop.
I’ve traveled a lot in my day, but that is a part of the country I’ve never visited. Really beautiful. Thanks for taking us along.
You’re welcome, lived in Phoenix for years, but I had to move away before I visited! Maybe one of these days you’ll have to make the trip — if the farm responsibilities will let you sneak away
